Background: Liver failure, both acute and chronic, is a significant global health issue due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. This condition requires complex, multidisciplinary management, with specialized nursing care being pivotal for successful patient outcomes. In emergency and critical care settings, nurses are essential in addressing not only the clinical aspects of care but also the emotional, psychological, and social challenges faced by patients. Despite the advancements in medical treatments, there remains a gap in how nursing strategies are tailored to meet the unique needs of liver failure patients, particularly in integrated emergency and critical care settings. Aim: This paper aims to explore the role of specialized nursing in the management of liver failure, with a focus on its integration into emergency and critical care. It also examines the challenges nurses face in these settings and proposes evidence-based strategies to improve patient care and outcomes. Methods: A systematic review of existing literature, clinical guidelines, and case reports was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, patient outcomes, and the delivery of care in emergency and critical care settings. The review aimed to identify best practices and solutions for overcoming barriers to optimal nursing care. Results: Specialized nursing interventions, including symptom management, prevention of hepatic encephalopathy, and infection control, were shown to improve patient outcomes significantly. However, challenges such as managing complex symptoms, ensuring patient compliance with treatment, and addressing the emotional and psychosocial burdens of patients remain prominent. Interdisciplinary collaboration, along with focused nursing education and training, was identified as a key factor in overcoming these challenges. Conclusion: Specialized nursing is integral to the management of liver failure patients in emergency and critical care settings, addressing both clinical and psychosocial aspects of care. Evidence-based nursing strategies and enhanced training programs are essential for improving patient outcomes and advancing healthcare quality.
